uber party to make up for previous encounter

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

「伊東さんのパーティーより千倍良かった。お酒をたくさん飲んだり、いやな人と付き合わなくて済んだりしました。too good. フォーティー・フィフティーンです。 i love pugs.
look at this wow pffffffchuuuu. oh fuck she’s going to lose, i can tell. just get the vibe…」と、ダニエルさんは言った。

today was our farewell party – actually held for us! after getting taken around town in the morning with my host father, i was looking forward to a hopefully relaxing night. and it turned out to be just that :) :).

so as you can see.. the meat for this party came to 36k yen, or roughly $450 for 14 people. this works out quite expensive per head, but its apparently non-imported, japanese meat. which is pretty rare i guess? the cost was split between a few of the families involved, so overall it wasn’t too expensive.

my mum admitted tonight that its true the more you pay for meat in japan, the more oil and fat it has. the japanese seem to LIKE this as it adds to the taste. i personally think it tastes pretty horrible :/.

what can i say? after drenching the meat in some nice sauce, it has a nice taste to it. my appetite towards niku is pretty limited, but oh well :p

one thing i realised after tonight – something which i guess i have noticed before but never thought about consciously – nintendo have the strategy to take over at very least the japanese market. in fact, this may have been the case since they labelled their first console using half of the word family. they are out there to make sure as many people enjoy their game systems *together* as possible.

during my time in japan, i have seen a lot of people with both psps and DS(orig mostly) systems. i have never actually seen someone playing a psp with anyone else watching, nor playing any multiplayer aware games. in fact i’m not even sure if the system has wireless or not anymore lol…

on the other hand, i can’t count the number of times i’ve seen groups of 4-5 people watching a single DS playing semi-cooperatively, or the same number of people with >1 ds using adhoc wifi. the wii will succeed in japan – i can guarantee that right now.

so i guess if you saw the picture above (or were there lol) you’ve realised two of the kids had DSes. one had the new mario, one had a random tamagotchi ds game, and smb original gba cart in. at first they were off playing on their own, but by the end of the night they were basically forcing us to play. i kind of wish i took my dslite with me to challenge them in some ouendan…

but yeah. i think nintendo sure has the right idea unlike some other companies. i also still think mario looks really squashed/fat in the new smb… :s. it was actually the first time i got to play the game. i definitely want to get it second hand and have a play through – if only for the music!

the night ended with some japanese style sparklers. these are apparently the most boring kind of fireworks to japanese teenagers, but we found them quite exciting! watch the fireworks on youtube or just get this avi if you care about quality :p.

we actually have some more high-grade ones planned for tomorrow night, so i’m looking forward to that :) .

ignore any grammatical errors kthx. too tired to check what i wrote. oyasumi~

time flies when you’re having fun(?)

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

if you classify fun as daily tests, 義理 social events and small amounts of free time. i can hardly even remember what i’ve done in the last week, but looking at photos helps with that.

with the symposium over and one less thing to worry about, only 2 weeks left of uni and my trip in japan, there had to be a few parties before we leave. in fact i don’t think i can count the number of parties which we have organised/ have been organised for us on one hand anymore^^;.

there was also the uni’s tanabata festival thing, where they were planning on doing some fireworks. unfortunately it was quite boring and we ended up leaving about 2 hours before the 10 minutes of fireworks started. i don’t think too much was missed though! we are doing fireworks tonight so that will make up for it at least.

hmm, today’s date is quite interesting really! 060708. meaning it was my birthday yesterday, but we really didn’t celebrate it at all, which was quite good i guess :) . looking forward to holding a large birthday lan when i get back to australia. all are invited!

if i felt like writing more, i could go into my hatred of many people in the neighbourhood, but that would probably end up being offensive and a bit too negative to post on my relatively positive blog wouldn’t it :p.

i guess what my host mum said was quite true – as i spend more time in japan i won’t be taking as many pictures. though having said that, i have forgotten my camera (or just forgotten to charge it ^^;) a few times lately when i wish i had it.

@5 days of uni. @5 tests. @10 days in japan. moo~
