headphones

January 18th, 2007

the bad thing about working is having no time, no energy, and no shortage of false transperth infringement accusations. the good part is having a bit of money to throw around. of course, then you have to find time to enjoy what you spend the money on. which means the end result is 睡眠不足 (lack of sleep).

i decided it was about time i got my own pair of headphones for my yamaha keyboard – i have been stealing my dads at every opportunity over the last couple of weeks. after doing a bit of research, i was pretty keen on the audio-technica open air AD900s.

they are ever so comfortable, and the sound quality is unquestionably better than any headphones i have heard up until now. works especially well with the keyboard – the grand piano soundbank sounds nothing short of awesome!

i also didn’t pass up the opportunity to pick up something to replace my falling apart 3-year-old sony headphones. enter the Ultimate Ear s3 canalbuds. while i haven’t really tested these out, they definitely put out sound that at least equals my old sony headphones, in a much smaller footprint. it will probably take a few days to get used to having plugs in my ears, but will be good for blocking out the idiot aboriginals that catch the train at the same time as me every day!

(`□´) 以上である!(爆)!

  1. Hello Peppy

Im sorry for using your blog for this kind of contact issue, but i couldnt find a way to contact you personally, so please delete this comment if you want.I read a post of yours at http://forums.macosxhints.com about a project file no longer recognized by final cut and i think Im having a problem with i think is the same. I had to format my mac so I backedup the my stuff to a dvd, including a project file for final cut pro4 and the related media, but now the project file seems to have lost the relation with the program, so I always qet this “File Error:Wrong type” message when i try to open it using fcp. As i ran into your post i got the feeling you managed to solve the problem using setfile. I was trying to do the same but as i have almost no experience using the terminal i was hoping you could help me with, as far as possible, step-to-step instructions on doing it. I would be really thankfull for that, as im already loosing my hopes on recovering my project. Im sorry once again to use this space for issues it isnt meant for.

Compliments and hope to hear from you soon

    Miguel

  2. Hi!

Its been so long that I don’t even remember posting that message! But after reading the thread (http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=16983 for reference) I think it must have been me :) .

I did indeed fix this using SetFile (http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/Manpages/man1/SetFile.1.html)
and while I don’t have an osx machine handy at the moment, will do my best to explain how you can fix your file.

the command you want to run in the terminal is:

SetFile -c “KeyG” -t “FCPF” myprojectfile

where myprojectfile is the full path to your FCP project’s project file (the main one). This could be something like

    /Users/peppy/Documents/Final\ Cut\ Pro/Project1.fcpro

You can use the tab key to get folder completions if you are a bit unsure of where to go.

Hopefully after you run this, you should be able to open it again in FCP!

Don’t hesitate to reply if you have any questions :) .

  3. soo much reading to catch up on!

canalbuds WIN. have you noticed that bus/train journeys no longer sound like “OMG AND THEN THIS GUY LOOKED AT ME LIKE OMG YOU KNOW THE WAY AND I LOOKED BACK AND…”?
